Inspiration vs Reality - Wk 3 - Act 3 Unscripted -

Here we are in week 3 of “Inspiration vs Reality.” For those of you new to the series, this is where I take a makeup look created by one of the artists that I follow on Instagram and do my best to replicate it on my 57 yr old face using the products that I have already in my makeup arsenal.

This week I’m inspired by another one of my fav makeup artists using a new palette that I am DEEPLY coveting. Sadly, the new Luxe Quad Eyeshadow Palette from Bobbi Brown isn’t yet available in Canada so covet is all I can do for now. It’s a gorgeous metallic foursome that span from pearly pink to warm copper; great for layering or wearing alone. I’ll be trying to recreate the look that Zara Findlay shows using mostly the same products but swapping out the eye palette shown for the Luxe Encore Eyeshadow Palette that I already own (from their 2020 Holiday Collection); lovely burgundy shades that I think will still work well.

Like always, I first prepped my skin using Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base & Eye Base (not shown in the products used) and again (and always) it’s worth reminding you that I am NOT a trained makeup artist.

Week 3 Takeaways

Zara didn’t show indicate any cheek colour so I just used Ruby from the eyeshadow palette on my cheeks; the glow it gives is a bonus!

In my third week, I am really starting to get that I am VERY light-handed in how I apply my makeup. While recreating the look, I usually feel I’ve gone WAY too dark in my application but when I compare the final outcome to the inspiration, I often look barely made up. It surprised me every time! Maybe it’s my lighting washing out the intensity of the colour but I’m not sure sure that’s even it. My partner may comment that he likes a look but he has NEVER indicated that anything has been a dramatic departure from what I usually wear. And it feels like a big jump for me each week so go figure?! My takeaway this week? I’m going to work on REALLY letting go and have more creative fun. Let’s see what next week brings (even I’m looking forward to it!)
