Time flies… here we are in week 5 of Inspiration vs Reality (IvsR Wk5), taking a makeup look created by one of the artists that I follow on Instagram and doing my best to replicate it on my 57 yr old face. I don’t buy any additional products; I just use what I have in my makeup arsenal already.
This week, after multiple efforts to increase the intensity of my look, I’m ramping WAY up. Ready? It’s time for a full-on smokey eye. So I’m trying to replicate a look posted back in February by a makeup guru I’ve newly found, and LOVE, Chloe Morello. She posts fast paced and REALLY informative tutorials including makeup and manicure looks. Love love.
The kicker on this look is that Chloe only uses THREE products to achieve the smokey look; black liner, coloured liner (she leaves it open, I chose a bronze/brown to keep close to her final look) and mascara. That’s it! Should be easy peasy, right?
First, I did do the rest of my face because I figure a smokey eye shouldn’t be all by itself. So this time I blended my BB foundation with a little bit of RMS Beauty Master Radiance Base, one of my can’t-live-without products. Details of the products used on the rest of the look are also below.
IvsR Wk5 Takeaways
Chloe was right when she said this was an easy look; like, super easy! It really is just three products and I have to say, of all the IvsR attempts so far, this is my favourite! I would even venture to replicate it again using either a mossy green or even navy blue coloured shadow pencil… I know, crazy, right? But it’s just so comfortable and easy to pull off. And it’s modestly impactful if that makes any sense at all; big bang but not in a “you don’t look like you anymore” kind of way.
All that is saying a LOT for someone who usually sticks to a pretty natural look and stays FAR away from ever fulling lining her eyes like. Not to mention, as I said many times before, I’m 57. And the skin around my eyes knows it and shows it. This is STILL a great look. Go figure!
I might just take this look out for date night tonight… as in, out in the backyard. It’s actually nice out today and let’s get real, we’re still in lockdown.
