Inspiration vs Reality – Wk 2

Inspiration vs Reality

Welcome to week 2 in my series “Inspiration vs Reality” where I take a makeup look created by one of the artists or influencers that I follow on Instagram and do my best to replicate it on my 57 yr old face using the products that I have already in my makeup arsenal.

This week’s look is from makeup artist extraordinaire, Nikki DeRoest who is a superstar when it comes to makeup tutorials; if you love this stuff as much as I do, you should be following her! Nikki’s look is a daytime smokey eye which looks GREAT on her but is a stretch for me since I usually wear very minimal eye makeup. But that’s the fun, no?

As always, I first prepped my skin using Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base & Eye Base (not shown in the products used) and I followed Nikki’s instructions all the way through (including lining the INNER corner of my eye). Again (and always) it’s worth reminding you that I am NOT a trained makeup artist.

Takeaways:

The pencil colour I was using (Bobbi Brown Long-Wearing Cream Shadow Stick in Taupe) was light enough that lining the inner corner wasn’t anywhere NEAR as scary as I thought it might be. Would I use this technique for every day, probably not but I WILL use it again for special occasions.

Let me know what you think or if you’d like details on any of the products… I’m back on the search for next week’s look!
