If you haven’t heard, let me be the first to wish you Happy International Kissing Day! Pucker Up!
Because in today’s day and age, we will celebrate just about anything (can I just ask who came up with World Toothache Day?! What horrible thing happened to you in your childhood? And for the record, it’s February 9th), I can tell you International Kissing Day is one I can whole-heartedly get behind.
A little “investigating” told me that it started in the UK which dispels any stereotypes about them being reserved and gained world-wide popularity in the early 2000s. I hope you celebrate today in some way but in case you’re unsure, here are some fun facts to get you motivated:
A “normal” kiss (not sure what that is exactly to be honest) burns 6.4 calories per minute; that jumps to 20 calories for passionate kisses so let’s wear off that extra glass of wine (I may be speaking personally here)!
Researchers have discovered that two-thirds of people tilt their heads to the right when kissing.
Kissing strengthens the immune system. Take that Covid! It also increases production of saliva which loosens plaque (*warning; not all of these fun facts are romantic).
Studies also indicate that recently kissed people drive less aggressively. Question… who conducts these studies? On the upside, yeah for less road rage!
And last but certainly not least, kissing boosts adrenaline AND happiness hormones so find a special someone and pucker up!
