Easy As Riding A Bike

I love my life here in the Okanagan Valley but there are many things I miss about Toronto. I write about this often because I am constantly reminded of things happening in my old hometown that spark a sense of nostalgia or longing for that bustling city I love so.

Today, I’m reminded of one such memorable event. The World Naked Bike Ride.

Easy as Riding a Bike

Originating in 2003 in Vancouver, Canada, it has spread to 74 cities in 80 countries worldwide. That’s a lot of naked butts in seats! Organizers started it as “a global protest over usage of oil and urban pollution, promoting greater cycling safety on our roads, and encouraging body freedom for everyone.” The Toronto website encourages you to just show up, “bare as you dare.”

I tell you this today because, for my readers in the Toronto area, the World Naked Bike Ride is tomorrow!

You’re welcome!

Expect to see a parade of cheeky riders gliding through the streets of downtown. I’m sorry to report rain is forecasted for much of Saturday in T.O. but I’m sure that won’t dampen the enthusiasm of this bunch.

I’ve checked already; as far as I can tell, Kelowna is not hosting a naked bike ride. My loss. And everyone else’s for that matter. But I will be attending the Kelowna Pride Parade tomorrow so, if it’s anything like Toronto’s bash, I’ll be having a pretty great time there instead.

However you’re passing the time this weekend, have fun, stay safe, and don’t forget the sunscreen!
